When you first came to Claremont (was that 1969?), I mentally put Peggy into the category of the submissive Bible-believing wife who had sacrificed her own development to obediently follow her husband and care for the children. After all you were Southern Baptists, which was bad enough, but in addition, you had recently lived in Needles, where Charlie pastored a SB Church, a town so hot (much of the year) and deserty that only masochists could have put up with living there! And although Charlie was going for a Ph.d., Peggy had not graduated from college. It didn't take long for Peggy to prove me wrong. You enrolled in Pitzer - the one Claremont college most influenced by the alternative ways of the 60s! Clearly something interesting was going on!
